Natalie is a graduate of Berklee College of Music where she majored in songwriting and guitar performance. She has more than 15 years of experience teaching private music lessons focused on the unique needs of each student, keeping them engaged and energized with songs of their choice while emphasizing the foundational techniques needed to master their instrument. She has also worked in various settings offering music education to persons with multiple learning needs and limited access to creative opportunities, using music as a platform for community building and social change and investing much time and energy building bridges between music education and the healing power of song.

Utilizing a thorough curriculum covering note reading, theory, rhythm, technique and songs of students’ choosing, covering many styles and genres, Natalie’s unique approach to teaching sets the groundwork for enjoyment and success in music. Natalie’s combined experience of teaching private music lessons and offering music education to persons with limited access gives her a unique edge when teaching individual lessons, as these experiences have strengthened her own reserves of creativity, improvisation, joy, patience and understanding that’s deeply valued from a student’s perspective when learning.

Natalie teaches in-home lessons for students’ convenience, specializing in guitar and songwriting (all ages and abilities) and beginner-level piano and ukulele. She can also be scheduled to teach group classes, songwriting workshops, and contemporary band instruction at schools, community centers, organizations and group facilities.

As an artist, Natalie has used music as a platform for community building and social change. With a strong desire to make music accessible to all, Natalie launched The SONG Project in 2009 which uses songwriting to empower persons who have been marginalized by poverty, trauma and violence to tell their stories of oppression and resilience in creative and transformative ways. Natalie’s journey with music as an avenue for awareness, expression, engagement and healing informs and enriches her teaching, as she shares these values and experiences with her students.
